DESCRIPTION The new models of the Personal System/2 Model 70 family, the 8570-061 and the 8570-A61, offer a new combination of 20MHz or 25MHz 80386 processor speed and 60MB fixed disk capacity. The system features a 80386 microprocessor and 2MB of high speed memory expandable to 16MB with memory options. The 8570 comes standard with: o 1.44MB, 3.5-inch diskette drive o Fixed disk drive with integrated controller o Keyboard port o Pointing device port o Serial/asynchronous port o Parallel port o Video Graphics Array (VGA) port o Three I/O slots o Keyboard. The VGA port supports graphics and text modes including 640 x 480 graphics, 320 x 200 graphics in 256 colors, and 720 x 400 text, and yet maintains compatibility with Color Graphics Adapter (CGA) and Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA) modes. The fixed disk drive has a capacity of 60MB. The fixed disk controller is integrated with the drive. The Compatibility BIOS (CBIOS) with memory addressability of up to 1MB provides compatible support for current application programs. An additional version of BIOS, Advanced BIOS (ABIOS) provides support for multi-tasking operating systems and has extended memory addressability up to 16MB. The high level of feature integration on the system board reduces the requirement for optional adapters. Memory on the system board can be expanded to 6MB (8570-061) or 8MB (8570-A61). The optional 80387 Math Co-Processor provides enhanced performance in arithmetic calculations. In addition, the system is designed for tool-free installation and includes security features in BIOS/CMOS and an external keylock. USER GROUP REQUIREMENTS: The 8570 (061 and A61) products address customer requests for a range of fixed disk capacities. PLANNING INFORMATION CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES: The 8570 is designated as customer setup. CABLE ORDERS: No cabling is required, other than for system power, keyboard, and display connections. Cables are provided with the system unit, keyboard, and display, and the instructions are provided as part of initial setup. INSTALLABILITY: By following the setup instructions, the user attaches the keyboard and peripherals and inserts the Reference Diskette. Power is then turned on and Set Configuration is run after the computer has successfully completed its initial self-tests. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: If a failure is found at initial installation, an instruction will appear on the screen. If the test is successfully completed, the system attempts to load an operating system from the A drive. If an operating system is not found, the system attempts to load one from the C fixed disk drive. If an operating system is not found, the user will be prompted to insert a diskette via an icon.
