TR Troubleshooting - Printer Problems

Are you having a problem accessing or using a printer connected to the ring as a shared printer ?
Go to page 12.1.

Are you having a problem accessing or using a printer connected to a specific ring station or file server as an unshared printer?
Go to page 12.2.

If this printer is connected to a ring station or a file server, it is not actually considered a network peripheral because it does not contain its own NIC. In this case, the procedures beginning here are applicable. If it does contain its own NIC, you should troubleshoot the problem as a network peripheral by going to page 10 . If a fter troubleshooting the problem as a network peripheral you feel that the printer or printer-sharing software may be at fault, come back to this page.

This procedure is generic as to the printer and printer network-sharing software manufacturer. For some of the troubleshooting steps on this page, you should also reference the manufacturer's documentation for any special predefined methods for checking configuration and for testing.

12.1 You have a problem accessing or using a printer connected to the ring as a shared printer.

Check the ring station, file server, or print server to which the printer is connected and the printer itself, to make sure that they are configured with all the proper hardware and software components and the correct configuration parameters. Also check the network file server or print server for all the correct printer-sharing software and proper configuration.

Are any incorrect configuration parameters present in either the respective ring station, network file server, print server, or printer?

Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the printer for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists after retesting, go to the next step .

Attempt to run any available printer diagnostics and test the printer cabling.

Did running the diagnostics and testing the printer cabling produce any errors?

Take the necessary action to resolve the problem and retest the printer for proper operation. If the failure symptom is gone, record the problem in the network maintenance and service log. If the problem still exists after retesting, go to the next step .

A configuration problem may still exist with the printer or the printer network-sharing software. Reference the respective printer and printer-software manufacturers' instructions.
