This procedure involves the use of a certified field standard weight set for either pounds or kilograms (Metric) calibration. Once the scale unit is calibrated, the 4696 uses the certified weight as a reference for subsequent weighing activities. Access to the calibration mechanism may be secured with a paper or a wire security seal per Weights and Measures requirements. The calibration procedure must be performed without removing the 4696 from its installed position. 1. Be sure that the 4696 is properly and permanently installed in the counter top and that the scanner unit lifting straps are removed. The scanner scale need not be completely level, but must be stable (must not wobble). 2. Power ON the 4696 (if not already on). 3. Allow the 4696 to reach room temperature for at least 1 hour. When the 4696 has been at room temperature for at least 1 hour, allow at least 15 minutes for the electronics in the scale unit to warm-up and stabilize after power ON. 4. The scale unit must be pre-stressed with a weight of more than 30 pounds (15 kilograms). Place the entire weight set (including the case) on the weighing surface of the scanner-scale. 5. Remove the weight set from the weighing surface. 6. Open the lift handle/access cover and open the calibration switch access cover. 7. Place the 4696 in calibration mode by pressing and releasing the calibration switch. ` The 4696 emits ONE short tone. The ZERO indicator light will begin` ` to blink indicating that the 4696 is in calibration mode.` Message ESCL will display on the remote scale display. ` NOTE: If there is no remote display installed listen for the` ` tones emitted by the 4696.` 8.` Press and release the ZERO pushbutton switch. The 4696 emits two ` ` short tones. The ZERO indicator light will turn on for approximately` ` 10 seconds and then begin to blink again.` Message Ad20 (for pounds) or Ad10 (for kilograms) will display on the remote scale display. 9. Place 20 pounds or 10 kilograms (for Metric calibration) of certified weight near the center of the weighing area of the 4696. Note: One or more certified weights can be used to reach the required weight total. 10. Press and release the ZERO pushbutton switch. ` The ZERO indicator` ` light will turn off for 10 to 25 seconds.` ` If the calibration is successful, the ZERO indicator light will then` ` turn on and remain on.` Message END will display on the remote scale display. 11. Remove the weights from the 4696. 12. Press and release the ZERO pushbutton switch again to permanently store the calibration data. ` The ZERO indicator light will turn` `off and the 4696 will reset.` After a few seconds, message 0.00 (pounds) or 0.000 (kilograms) will display on the remote scale display and the ZERO indicator light will turn on and remain on. NOTE: If the ZERO indicator light is blinking, Press the ZERO pushbutton switch one more time. If the AERO continues blinking, calibration was not successful. Repeat the calibration procedure from step 7. 13. When calibration is completed, you `must` perform the eight verification tests to ensure that the 4696 will weight correctly. Refer to ^Verification of Scale Operation^ and follow the instructions. ;end(Expanded Version Calibration Procedures) ;start(VERIFICATION OF SCALE OPERATION) ;file() 4696cali.hyp Calibration and Verification 4696 ;end(VERIFICATION OF SCALE OPERATION)
