DESCRIPTION The IBM 3270 Connection is a circuit card that plugs into a slot of the Personal System/2 system unit. A cable receptacle mounted on the card provides for attachment of a customer-supplied coaxial cable, IBM cabling system media (3174, 3274 or 9370 Workstation Subsystem Controller attachment only), or telephone twisted pair via IBM/ROLM coax-to-twisted pair adapter at the rear of the system unit. SCHEDULE The IBM 3270 Connection will be shipped with an IBM 3270 Connection Quick Reference Manual and Diagnostic Diskette as follows: o Effective May 29, 1987, to support the IBM Personal System/2 Model 50 and IBM Personal System/2 Model 60. o Effective September 25, 1987, to support the IBM Personal System/2 Model 80 (8580-041 and 8580-071). TECHNICAL INFORMATION SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT Identical to the system unit it is installed in. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS: o One of the following IBM Personal Systems with a vacant feature slot in the system unit. - IBM Personal System/2 Model 50 (8550) - IBM Personal System/2 Model 60 (8560) - IBM Personal System/2 Model 80 (8580-041 or 8580-071) o One of the following displays; - IBM Personal System/2 8503 Monochrome Display (8503) - IBM Personal System/2 Color Display (8512) - IBM Personal System/2 Color Display (8513) - IBM Personal System/2 Color Display (8514) o One of the following cable media: - Coaxial Cable (RG 62A/U with BNC Connector) - IBM Cabling System Media (3174, 3274, 9370 Workstation Subsystem Controller attachment only) - Telephone twisted pair via IBM/ROLM coax-to-twisted pair adapter (length requirements; 100' min to 900' max.) o Attachment to the 4702 Processor requires Cluster Adapter (#3102) Supporting programs may have additional requirements. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: To use this adapter,one of the following Emulator Programs is required; o IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program Entry Level Version 1.1* o IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program Entry Level Version 1.2 o IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program Version 3.0** o IBM 3270 Workstation Program o IBM 3270 Workstation Program Version 1.1 Check IBM Programming Announcements for availability dates. * The IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program, Entry Level Version 1.1 requires a code patch when used with IBM Personal System/2 workstations using the IBM 3270 Connection Adapter. ** A program update will be available by calling the IBM Program Support Center 800-IBM-2266 for problems which may occur by using the IBM PC 3270 Emulation Program, Version 3.0 with certain selected configurations of the IBM Personal System/2 or newly announced LAN products. o A 3270 PC file transfer program or IBM equivalent running at the host is required for file transfer. - 3270 PC File Transfer Program (5664-281) for VM/SP with or without HPO. - 3270 PC File Transfer Program (5665-311) for MVS/TSO - VSE/SP 2.1.1, 2.1.2 or SSX/VSE 1.4.1 o File transfer to the 4700 is not supported. COMPATIBILITY: The IBM 3270 Connection when used with a supported IBM 3270 Emulation Program, is compatible with 3270 base datastream alphanumeric application environments which support the IBM 3278 Model 2 or the IBM 3279 Model 2A or S2A terminals with certain restrictions. No host programming changes are required unless necessary 3270 functions are not available through the IBM 3270 Connection. The IBM 3270 Connection has been tested with and is supported for compatibility with the following IBM options for the IBM Personal System/2 Model 50, IBM Personal System/2 Model 60 and IBM Personal System/2 Model 80 (8580-041 and 8580-071) system units: o IBM 8503 Monochrome Display o IBM 8512 Color Display o IBM 8513 Color Display o IBM 8514 Color Display o IBM Enhanced Personal Computer Keyboard Attachment of the 3174, 3274 or 9370 Workstation Subsystem Controller via the 3299 Terminal Multiplexer is supported. LIMITATIONS: The following features and functions of 3270 displays are not supported nor available with the IBM 3270 Connection when used with IBM PC 3270 Emulation Programs. The customer is responsible for acquisition,installation and maintenance of the required cables and their associated connectors and accessories. CABLE ORDERS: Cables and/or associated connectors and accessories to attach these IBM Personal System/2 Models to a 3174, 3274, or 3276 control unit, a 4321, 4331 or 4361 Processor, a 4702 Processor, or a 9370 Workstation Subsystem Controller may be purchased from IBM or from customer-selected sources. INSTALLABILITY: Instructions are provided with the card in the Quick Reference Guide. PROBLEM DETERMINATION: The customer is responsible for problem determination. An IBM 3270 Connection diagnostic diskette is provided, and must be migrated to the system diagnostic package. Details are provided in the Quick Reference which is provided with the card. SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities. For more information on data security controls, see Data Security Controls and Procedures (G320-5649). If sensitive data is sent over external communication facilities, user management may wish to pursue the application of cryptography. TERMS AND CONDITIONS CUSTOMER SET-UP: Yes. IBM set-up is available at the applicable IBM hourly service rates and minimum charges. WARRANTY PERIOD: 1 year. If the IBM 3270 Connection is purchased and installed with the base machine, it will have the same warranty period as the system unit on which it is installed. If the warranty period of the feature extends beyond that of the base system unit, the customer is responsible to show proof of purchase for the warranty service. All other terms and conditions are the same as those applicable for the machine type for which the adapter is ordered.
