Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability

       This new Personal System/2 (TM) Multi-Protocol Adapter/A
(#3043) (6451003) supports PS/2 (TM) Models 8550-021, 8560-041,
8560-071, 8580-041, 8580-071, 8580-111, and 8580-311.
       The Personal System/2 Multi-Protocol Adapter/A provides a
full-duplex or half-duplex multi-protocol serial data transmission
channel.  It supports asynchronous, bisynchronous, HDLC, or SDLC
protocols.  It will support modems or direct attachment.  The option
is programmable at speeds of up to 19,200 bps and supports automatic
protocol switching via software at setup.
       The Personal System/2 Multi-Protocol Adapter/A (#3042)
(6450348) announced April 2, 1987, continues to be available as an
option on models 8550-021, 8560-041, 8560-071, 8580-041, and
8580-071.

(S68X-2220) has been withdrawn.

       Planned availability is March 1988.

SPECIFIED OPERATING ENVIRONMENT
MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:  The Personal System/2 Multi-Protocol Adapter/A
is supported on the following PS/2 System Units:  8550-021, 8560-041,
8560-071, 8580-041, 8580-071, 8580-111, and 8580-311.  This adapter
requires one expansion slot.
PLANNING INFORMATION
CABLE ORDERS:  The Personal System/2 Multi-Protocol Adapter/A
requires the IBM Communications Adapter Cable (#2067) (1502067).
INSTALLABILITY:  Installation instructions are included with this
feature and are also contained in the IBM Personal System/2 Quick
Reference.
SECURITY, AUDITABILITY, AND CONTROL
       User management is responsible for evaluation, selection, and
implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and
appropriate controls in application systems and communications
facilities.
