IBM ThinkPad May 21, 1997 Mwave DSP Features Diskettes for Windows NT Release 2.20 ========================================== What These Diskettes Do ----------------------- There are three diskettes supporting the Mwave DSP features for Windows NT. Supported Models ---------------- 1) The following ThinkPad models are equipped with the Mwave features: - ThinkPad 755CD, 755CDV, 755CE, 755CSE, 755CV, 755CX - ThinkPad 760C, 760CD, 760E, 760ED, 760XD 2) The following ThinkPad models are preloaded with Windows NT and support plug and play, but the BIOS date must be later than January 1996: - ThinkPad 755CD, 755CDV, 755CE, 755CSE, 755CV, and 755CX Note: The device driver consists of two diskettes, Disk 1 and Disk 2. You must download both diskettes. Summary of Changes ------------------ Where: Diskette version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New function or enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function (Restriction) Remaining restriction <2.20> - (Restriction) At present, the following features are not supported: - Speaker phone and Answer function - Sound Blaster game - Class-1 Fax - (Restriction) If you suspend while playing MIDI/WAVE, MIDI/WAVE might not replay properly after you resume stop playing MIDI/WAVE just before entering suspend mode. - (Restriction) Do not set the BGM option of the pinball game. It reduces the game speed. - (Restriction) A momentary break problem occurs about 10 percent of the time when fax memos are sent with WinFax Pro 4.0 when the ThinkPad is in suspend mode. Resending the fax usually corrects this problem. Click on Cancel at the WinFax Pro status window and reset the application. - (Restriction) For details about modem, fax, and multimedia, read the Frequently Asked Questions and Answers in the README.TXT of the Windows NT installation disk 1. Installation Guide ------------------ 1.0 Mwave Installation to Windows NT 4.0 ---------------------------------------- The following ThinkPad models are supported: - ThinkPad 535, 755CX, 760C, 760CD, 760E, and 760ED If you use the Mwave features of Windows NT, you can use the following: - The 28.8 kbps data modem - The Fax application - The MIDI/Mwave sound of the multimedia application You can also play a music CD if the ThinkPad has an internal CD-ROM drive. Notice: - The ThinkPad computer has at least 24MB of memory, but 32MB is recommended. - After the installation, shut down and restart Windows NT before using the modem application. - To use the Mwave suspend/resume power management feature, download the utility diskette of the following models (ThinkPad 535, 755CX, 760C, 760CD, 760E, or 760ED) and install it. For the 755CX model, download the power management support diskette and install it. o To install the Mwave driver, first install the ThinkPad Features program; then enable the Mwave DSP resource setting (for the 755CX) or enable the audio and internal modem setting (for the 535, 760C, 760CD, 760E, or 760ED). o To use the MIDI, install the MIDI sample files. These diskettes are common with Window 3.1 and Windows 95. Mwave Driver Installation for Windows NT ---------------------------------------- Do the following: 1. Insert the installation diskette 1 into the diskette drive. 2. Click on Start; then Run... 3. Type A:\SETUP on the command line; then press Enter or click on OK. MIDI Sample Installation for Windows NT --------------------------------------- To use the MIDI just after the Mwave driver installation, install a MIDI sample file. Do the following: 1. Insert the MIDI installation diskette into the diskette drive. 2. Click on Start; then Run... 3. Type A:\SETUP on the command line; then press Enter or click on OK. 4. When prompted to use the sample, click on Yes. 5. After the installation, shut down and restart Windows NT. 1.1 Mwave Modem Configuration ----------------------------- After the Mwave driver installation, you must set the COM port number for Mwave resource allocation. Step 1. Set the Mwave modem COM port ------------------------------------ Use the ThinkPad Features program to select the COM port for the modem; then define the same COM port using the Control Panel of Windows NT. Do the following: 1. (For the ThinkPad 755CX) Double-click on DSP of ThinkPad Features. The DSP dialog appears. (For the ThinkPad 535 or 760 series) Click on ThinkPad Features. The modem icon appears. 2. Select one COM port in the telephony function (internal modem) box. If the COM port is in use, a message appears. 3. Click on the Setting button, or click on OK (for the ThinkPad 535 or 760 series), and save the selected COM port. 4. Double-click on My Computer. Double-click on Control Panel. Double-click on Serial port. 5. Check for any COM port you selected previously. If such a port is in the list double-click on it, otherwise, click on add. 6. Specify following values in the hardware setting dialog: # of COM Port(C) I/O Port Address(B) IRQ # (I) ---------------- ------------------- --------- COM 1 03F8 4 COM 2 02F8 3 COM 3 03E8 4 COM 4 02E8 3 Make the FIFO effective by putting a check mark in the check box. 7. Click on OK; then shut down the computer and restart Windows NT. The selected COM port is allocated for Mwave. Step 2 Add the Mwave modem for communication applications --------------------------------------------------------- (only for Windows NT 4.0) ------------------------- In this step for adding modem using the Control Panel. You can use the uni-modem features applications, such as the hyper-terminal and dail-up networking. Do the following: 1. Click on Start. Click on Settings. Click on Control Panel. 2. Double-click on Modem. 3. If there is no modem, the install New Modem window appears. If you have already installed a modem, click on Add; then the Install New Modem window appears. 4. Click on Next. Windows NT starts the modem search. If the search is successful, IBM ThinkPad 28.8 Mwave Data Fax is displayed. If the search is unsuccessful, repeat steps 1 and 2. All changes become effective after Windows NT is restarted. 5. Click on Next; then follow the instructions in the Control Panel. After you complete step 2, you can use the Mwave modem for all communication applications supported by Windows NT 4.0. 2.0 ThinkPad Mwave DSP Operation under Windows NT 3.51 ------------------------------------------------------ The following ThinkPad models are supported: - ThinkPad 755CD, 755CDV, 755CE, 755CX, 760C, 760CD, 760E, and 760ED If you use the Mwave features of Windows NT, you can use the following: - The 28.8 kbps data modem - The Fax application - The MIDI/Mwave sound of the multimedia application You can also Play a music CD if the ThinkPad has an internal CD-ROM drive. When the Mwave driver is installed, the MODEM.INF file of the RAS that was installed previously will be updated by Mwave. o To install Mwave driver, first install the ThinkPad Features program; then enable the Mwave DSP resource setting (for the 755CD, 755CDV, 755CE, or 755CX), or enable the audio and internal modem setting (for the 760C, 760CD, 760E, or 760ED). o To use the MIDI, you must install the MIDI sample files. These diskettes are common with Window 3.1 and Windows 95. Mwave Driver Installation for Windows NT ---------------------------------------- Do the following: 1. Type A:\SETUP on the command line; then press Enter or click on OK. 4. When you are prompted you to use the sample, click on Yes. 5. After the installation, shut down and restart Windows NT. 2.2 Mwave Modem Configuration ----------------------------- After the Mwave driver installation, set the COM port number for Mwave resource allocation.
