IBM ThinkPad October 1, 1997 Video Features Diskette I for OS/2 Version 1.16 ====================================================================== What This Diskette Does ----------------------- The Video Features Diskette I for OS/2 provides drivers to: - Improve the drawing performance on the display - Provide a resolution up to 1024x768 - Provide various color depths: 256, 64K, or 16M The following models are supported: - ThinkPad 365X and 365XD - ThinkPad 760C, 760CD, 760L, and 760LD - ThinkPad 760E (see note 1), 760EL (see note 2) and 760ELD Notes: 1. For ThinkPad 760E system users: If your display (LCD) supports SVGA (800x600), install this diskette. 2. For ThinkPad 760EL system users: If the machine type is 9547-x4G, 9547-x4K or 9547-x4T, do NOT install this diskette. Instead, install the Video Features Diskette II for OS/2. If the user's setting cannot be set on the LCD, the display driver automatically sets the color depth. - (Fix) The OS/2 full screen expands to 800x600 resolution. - (Fix) The screen no longer corrupts during the save-and-restore operation in a DOS full screen with a configuration of 800x600 resolution and 16 colors. - (Fix) The screen on the external monitor (CRT) appears at the same time on the LCD when the DOS window session changes to 40-column full-screen mode. WIN-OS/2 version - (New) Support for ThinkPad 760L, 760LD, 365X, and 365XD. - (New) Support for the mouse trail in a WIN-OS/2 full screen. - (Fix) Color gradation no longer corrupts when the PowerPoint 4.0 is used with 64K colors. - (Fix) The text input frame for PowerPoint 4.0 disappears when the focus is moved on other windows and 64K colors are used. - (Fix) Sample patterns are displayed in the dialog box of the Format-Cells menu when Excel 5.0 with 64K colors is used. - (Fix) Rectangular patterns can be drawn when AmiPro 3.1 with 64K colors is used. - (Fix) Sample patterns are displayed in the Fill Pattern dialog box when AmiPro 3.1 with 64K colors is used in a WIN-OS/2 seamless session. - (Fix) 1024x768 resolution with 256 colors is displayed on the CRT when a ThinkPad computer with a Pentium 120M-Hz processor is used. - (Fix) A Windows general protection fault no longer occurs when a 16M-color bitmap is opened in Paintbrush when 256 colors are used. <1.02> OS/2 version - (New) Support for ThinkPad 760E, 760EL, 365X, and 365XD. - (New) Support for LAN installation (CID). - (Fix) The CRT monitor no longer becomes a virtual screen when the Presentation Manager desktop switches from a full-screen session. WIN-OS/2 version - (New) Support for ThinkPad 760EL. - (New) More memory available on conventional memory. - (New) The default is set to the LCD size or the maximum resolution on a CRT monitor. - (Fix) The font is determined when big fonts are displayed in Freelance 2.1's ScreenShow. - (Fix) A Windows general protection fault no longer occurs when a bitmap is opened with FoxPro. - (Fix) (DSTN models only) A blackout no longer occurs during the return to the desktop with 64K colors, when the display device switches to an LCD from a CRT in a DOS full screen. - (Fix) A Windows general protection fault no longer occurs during printing with a Hewlett Packard DeskJet series printer. - (Fix) A blackout no longer occurs during the return to a WIN-OS/2 full screen, when the resolution is changed and the display device is switched to a CRT from an LCD in the OS/2 desktop. - (Fix) A Windows general protection fault no longer occurs when a PC/3270 for Windows Version 4.1 with 256 colors is used. <1.11> OS/2 version - (Fix) The system no longer hangs when the OS/2 desktop switches from a full-screen session on OS/2 Warp V4. - (Fix) Fonts no longer corrupt when Lotus Notes V4.1 is used. - (Fix) The system no longer hangs when Lotus Notes V4.1 is used. WIN-OS/2 version - (Fix) The system no longer hangs during frequent switches between the OS/2 desktop and a WIN-OS/2 full screen. - (Fix) A screen blackout no longer occurs after a VIO pop-up appears in a WIN-OS/2 full-screen session and then the screen returns to the WIN-OS/2 session. - (Fix) A Windows general protection fault no longer occurs at the Version submenu in the Range menu when Lotus 1-2-3 is used in a WIN-OS/2 seamless session. - (Fix) AmiPro prints the styled underline correctly with a Canon BJC-400J printer. - (Fix) A bitmap in the help file shows the correct 64K colors. <1.12> WIN-OS/2 version - (Fix) (Version 1.11 only) A WIN-OS/2 full screen runs on VL bus models. - (Fix) A blackout no longer occurs even if a WIN-OS/2 full screen is started in the background. - (Fix) The system box menu in Excel 5.0 no longer corrupts in a WIN-OS/2 full screen during the switch to the OS/2 desktop during the Excel initialization. <1.13> OS/2 version - (Fix) The system proportional font is displayed correctly. <1.14> OS/2 version - (Fix) The installation program no longer reports error messages to the DSPINSTL.LOG file when no installation error occurred. WIN-OS/2 version - (Fix) A blackout no longer occurs during a frequent switch between a WIN-OS/2 full screen and the OS/2 desktop during the WIN-OS/2 full-screen initialization. - (Fix) Color no longer corrupts on the icons in the tool bar of PowerPoint 4.0 when the WIN-OS/2 full screen is started in the background. - (Fix) A mouse pointer is first located at the center of a screen when the WIN-OS/2 full screen is started in the background. - (Fix) A Windows general protection fault no longer occurs when AutoCAD displays a bitmap. <1.15> OS/2 version - (Fix) An SVGADATA.ERR file is no longer created when no error occurs. <1.16> OS/2 version - (Fix) The mouse pointer moves smoothly even if screen is updated very frequently. WIN-OS/2 version - (Fix) Reduced free memory in GDI heap under WIN-OS/2. - (Fix) Blackground color is changed to black in 64K color mode with some applications under WIN-OS/2. Installation Guide ------------------ If you are reinstalling the display driver in a system that already has an old version of that driver installed, do the following: If not, skip this procedure. 1. Turn on the computer and start OS/2. 2. When a small white box appears in the upper left corner of the screen, press Alt+F1. 3. When the Recovery Choices screen appears: - In Warp Version 3: press V. - In Warp Version 4: press F3. 4. Shut down OS/2 after the VGA driver is installed. 5. Turn off the computer. 1. Turn on the computer and start OS/2. 2. Set the display device to LCD only. 3. Insert the ThinkPad Video Features Diskette I for OS/2 into the diskette drive. 4. Open an OS/2 window or a full-screen command prompt. 5. Type A: at the command prompt and press Enter. 6. Type INSTALL at the A:\> prompt and press Enter: A:\>INSTALL 7. Follow the instructions on the screen. 8. After the installation is complete, remove the diskette, shut down OS/2, and restart the computer.
