The IBM Personal Dictation Adapters, working in conjunction with the IBM Personal Dictation System, can provide the following benefits: o Helps increase user productivity, saving time and effort in the document creation process, by decoding spoken words directly into electronic text; eliminates the need for transcribing and enabling direct author control over quality and accuracy during dictation. o Provides enhanced business solutions by enabling the creation of text by voice for general business documents and correspondence. The efficiency of capturing the spoken word into text is ex- ploited by support of software packages for document production. o Growth of the customer's organization will be enabled through the development and implementation of speech-aware applications and by providing opportunities to produce quality text and shorten the overall document production cycle. o Provides investment protection by enabling the integration of voice input with existing applications. Customer Letter Section DESCRIPTION CPU PROCESSING OFF-LOAD The primary function of the IBM Personal Dictation Adapters is to provide CPU processing offload for the computationally intensive speech recognition operations of the IBM Personal Dictation System -- a large-vocabulary automatic speech recognition system. The announced products are 16-bit audio I/O adapter cards with a Digital Signal Processor and standard 3.5 mm I/O jacks. The IBM Personal Dictation Adapters require the following: o A 486SX-25MHz IBM PS/2 or IBM ValuePoint system or compatible o A microphone (shipped with the IBM Personal Dictation System), loudspeaker (optional, but recommended) and cables compatible with the audio subsystem. GROWTH ENABLEMENT -- INCREASED CAPACITY/PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT By providing CPU process off-load while using the IBM Personal Dictation System, the system is available for multi-tasking activities. BUSINESS SOLUTIONS -- INTEGRATION OF BUSINESS SOLUTIONS The audio capture and playback function provides audio input and output functions supporting the IBM Personal Dictation System. INVESTMENT PROTECTION -- ASSET PROTECTION The audio functions of the IBM Personal Dictation Adapters eliminate the need for an additional investment of a separate audio card.
