--------------------------------------------------------------------- IR32596 has been installed. Patch created on: 27th of June, 1996. Patch applies to: SNACOM, CSDs CPG6131 and earlier. IPCHAN, CSDs IPY6131 and earlier. HCC, GA release only. Patch consists of (in the c:\nsca directory): File: Date: Time: Size: ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ NSCADD.SYS 6-27-96 6:14p 66612 NSCADDI.SYS 6-27-96 6:17p 81972 NSCADDT.SYS 6-27-96 6:16p 75316 NSCADDIT.SYS 6-27-96 6:18p 94260 Description of the problem: When 10 or more unique logical paths are configured for IPCHAN, no host communication is possible. The connection between the host and the 3172 doesn't even get as far as the node descriptor flowing; in fact, the 3172 doesn't even generate light on the ESCON cable that is attached to the ESCON Director. For configured ESCON connections to hosts, the IPCHAN configurator, IPYSETUP, writes all numbers to the NSCA.CFG file as hexadecimal numbers. However, when the ESCON device driver (without this fix) parses NSCA.CFG, it reads the Device Address Table (DAT) numbers as decimal numbers. Hence, when it comes to read DAT 0A (the tenth), it fails to parse NSCA.CFG correctly and all host connections become inoperable. (N.B. A "logical path" is the combination of the upstream ESCON Director Port's number and the logical Control Unit Image's number.) Description of the fix: All the above ESCON device driver versions have been fixed so that they parse the Device Address Table column of the NSCA.CFG file as a hexadecimal number, not a decimal number. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
