The 8515 Display was not tested with the 8514/A 2. The 3270 Connection Adapter type 'B', may require the ROM memory address changed to CE00 in order to function correctly with 3270 Emulation Entry Level Program. This may need to be changed to CE00 after every Automatic Configuration. This change may also reduce the amount of memory available for Extended memory (EMS) drivers. 3. The 8515 Display may give problems when used with Interleaf Publisher 1.5. A later release of Interleaf Publisher should solve these problems. 4. DOS 4.01 requires the installation of CSD 29015 or higher before installation of greater then two hardfiles, in order to function correctly. 5. OS/2 1.1 Standard Edition is only supported on the 8565-061, 8565-121, 8580-A21, 8580-A31, 8580-M21, and the 8580-X21 with the SCSI Adapters. It was only tested on these model PS/2's 6. OS/2 1.1 Standard Edition and OS/2 1.1 Extended Edition do not support either the Internal CD-ROM Drive or the External CD-ROM Drive. 7. When using the CD-ROM Drive over the network with OS/2 1.2 and Communications Manager it will not be possible to have security access for the CD-ROM Drive. 12 Limitations: The PS/2 External Storage Enclosure for SCSI Devices can be populated to a maximum of seven SCSI devices. The maximum number of internal/external SCSI devices that can be attached to the SCSI adapter, including the PS/2 External Storage Enclosure for SCSI Devices, is seven. The following are some enclosure configuration examples: Five bays can be populated with six additional PS/2 320MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1108) (6451108) Five bays can be populated with six additional PS/2 80MB or 160MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1045) (6451045) or (FC1046) (6451046) Five bays can be populated with four additional PS/2 60MB or 120MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1049) (6451049) or (FC1050) (6451050) (not in bay A or B) Two 5.25-inch half high PS/2 CD-ROM Drives (FC0800) (6451113) plus four PS/2 320MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1108) (6451108) One PS/2 2.3GB Full High SCSI Tape Drive (FC1121) (6451121) in bay D plus two additional PS/2 320MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1108) (6451108), or two additional PS/2 80MB or 160MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1045) (6451045) or (FC1046) (6451046), or two additional 60MB or 120MB SCSI Fixed Disk Drives (FC1049) (6451049) or (FC1050) (6451050) (not in bay A or B) Only one PS/2 2.3GB Full High SCSI Tape Drive is supported in PS/2 Model 3511-004, and only in bay D. Nominal Operating Current: It is possible to damage the power supply or shutdown the system if the total amount of nominal operating current required for the devices installed exceeds the available current of the power supply in the Storage Enclosure. The total amount of nominal current allowed is 4.6A on the +5V line and 7.5A on the +12V line. The following table lists the nominal operating currents for some of the devices that can be installed in the Storage Enclosure: MEDIA STORAGE NOMINAL CURRENT PERMITTED BAY DEVICE +5V Line +12V Line LOCATION PS/2 CD-ROM Drive 0.9A 1.7A E and D (top) 60MB SCSI Fixed 0.66A 1.0A E and D (top) Disk Drive D (bottom), C (top) and C (bottom) 80MB SCSI Fixed 0.5A 0.8A ALL 120MB SCSI Fixed 0.66A 1.0A E and D (top) Disk Drive D (bottom), C (top) and C (bottom) 160MB SCSI Fixed 0.5A 0.8A ALL Disk Drive 320MB SCSI Fixed 0.66A 1.0A All Disk Drive 2.3GB Full High 2.0A 0.4A D SCSI Tape Drive Use the following chart to write in and add up the nominal-operating currents of all the devices you install in the Storage Enclosure. Compare your totals to the allowed totals. NOMINAL CURRENT NOMINAL CURRENT BAY +5V Line +12V Line A B E D Top D Bottom C Top C Bottom 0.66A 1.0A TOTAL TOTAL ALLOWED CURRENTS 4.6A 7.5A User Group Requirements: The announced IBM SCSI option package addresses numerous customer requests and satisfies requirements submitted by IBM User Groups (for example, SHARE, SEAS, GUIDE, European G.U.I.D.E. and ASG). Planning Information Cable Orders: The PS/2 Card to Option Cable (FC1041) (6451041) is a 60-pin to 50-pin cable is required to connect the PS/2 External Storage Enclosure for SCSI Devices to either the PS/2 Micro Channel SCSI Adapter or the PS/2 Micro Channel SCSI Adapter with Cache. The cable is approximately four feet (1,220 millimeters) in length. The IBM Personal System/2 Option Interface Terminator, included with the PS/2 Card to Option Cable, is a 50 pin terminator which is not required when a PS/2 External Storage Enclosure for SCSI Devices is attached to a PS/2 Micro Channel system. NOTE: IBM SCSI products adhere to the ANSI SCSI Standard (X3.131-1986) for single ended devices. Single ended implementations are limited to a maximum distance of 20 feet (6 meters) between the SCSI devices at the end to end position on the SCSI bus. The internal SCSI cable, which is 45.6-inches long, is included in the 20 feet limitation. Installability: The PS/2 External Storage Enclosure for SCSI Devices should take about 10 minutes to install. Problem Determination: The standard system error indications should be followed to resolve all problems. Packaging: Product Ship Group -------------- ------------------------------------------- 3511-004 SCSI Enclosure Quick Reference Power Cord Security, Auditability and Control Security and auditability features of the system in which this product is attached are: o A mechanical lock to allow the user to lock the system cover o A user-invoked password function used to prevent the use of the system by unauthorized persons. Limitations: Small Computer System Interface (SCSI), as defined in the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard X3.131-1986, provides for multiple SCSI adapters (initiators) on the SCSI bus. The SCSI bus may be internal or external to the system unit. The IBM PS/2 SCSI Adapter is in conformance with this standard and has an external port. A data security exposure exists even with Power-On Password installed, since external SCSI adapters can attach through the external SCSI port and gain undetected read or write access to data stored on internal and external SCSI devices. Physical access to the system and external SCSI devices must be controlled to limit this exposure. User management is responsible for evaluation, selection and implementation of security features, administrative procedures and appropriate controls in application systems and communications facilities.
