An IBM Personal Pageprinter attachment cable (P/N 01F1175) is included in the IBM Personal Publishing System SolutionPacs and upgrade kits. PROGRAMMING REQUIREMENTS: DOS 3.3 or higher is required to support the IBM Personal Publishing System (included in System SolutionPacs). Software required to begin Desktop Publishing is shipped with the System SolutionPacs. Software unique to Desktop Publishing is shipped with the Option Kit SolutionPacs. DOS and any other application software must be ordered separately. COMPATIBILITY: Memory, printer control function, and fonts are not resident in the IBM Personal Pageprinter (4216-020), but reside in the IBM Personal Pageprinter Adapter Card/Adapter Program. PREREQUISITES: A IBM Personal Pageprinter attachment cable (P/N 01F1175) is required to attach IBM Personal Pageprinter to the IBM Personal Publishing System. LIMITATIONS: The IBM Personal Pageprinter is capable of printing up to 6 pages per minute. However, the printer's performance depends on several things: o Six pages per minute excludes the first page print time of 25 seconds. o Host system and application (image/graphics content varies performance) o Paper size (6 PPM is for letter or A4 size paper) o The complexity of the page to be printed The IBM Personal Pageprinter is capable of handling the following paper types and sizes: o Letter Size - 216 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 inch) o Legal Size - 216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 inch) o Half Letter - 140 x 216 mm (5.5 x 8.5 inch) o A4 - 210 x 297 mm o B5 - 182 x 257 mm o A5 - 148 x 210 mm o Envelopes - Manual o Transparencies- A4 or Letter - manual only o Xerographic Labels - Letter or A4 size - manual only The IBM Personal PagePrinter is capable of automatically feeding, printing, and ejecting paper with weights of 60-90 g/m2 (16 to 24 lbs). Envelopes, labels, and transparencies and 60 g/m2 (16 lb.) paper should be tested by the customer for satisfactory results before purchasing large quantities. Feeding reliability is affected by temperature, humidity, and media composition. For satisfactory feeding, envelopes should not be stored nor manually fed where the humidity exceeds 70 percent R.H. (60 percent R.H. limit for 60g/m2 (16 lb.) envelopes). Transparencies with white optical sensor stripes, coated with silicon lubricant and transparencies intended for infared copiers, are not recommended. Transparencies should be treated for de-static control. The stacking of output is limited to the following: maximum paper stacking - equal to input tray in upper tray; 20 sheets in lower tray. maximum envelope stacking - 20 in upper tray; 5 in lower tray. maximum label stacking - 50 in upper tray; 15 in lower tray. maximum transparency stacking - 5 in upper tray; 5 in lower tray. All papers placed in the printer should be new, unused and without packaging damage. To improve feed reliability all papers should be "fanned" before being placed into the input tray. For best performance, xerographic paper should be used in the printer. Xerographic paper usually works better than other types of paper because of its special characteristics, IBM Multi-System Paper is quality xerographic paper. The following paper is recommended for use in the printer: o Xerographic Paper (letter size) - Reorder No. 7034548 - 8 reams (4K sheets) o Xerographic Paper (legal size) - Reorder No. 7034550 - 8 reams (4K sheets) o Transparency - Reorder No. 1674107 - (100 sheets) Plain bond paper of one of the following compositions may also be used: o Number 1 sulfite (100 percent chemical wood pulp) o 25 percent cotton content o 50 percent cotton content o Paper made from recycled office paper One hundred percent cotton content paper is not recommended for use in this printer because poor print quality may result and extended use may shorten the life of the cleaning unit or fuser assembly. Printing on preprinted forms should be tested by the customer for satisfactory results. The printer feeds and aligns envelopes whose length, defined as the dimension parallel to the feed direction, ranges from a minimum of 187 mm (7.36 inch) to a maximum of 250 mm (9.84 inch), and whose width, defined as the dimension perpendicular to the feed direction, ranges from a minimum of 98.4 mm (3.875 inch) to a maximum of 176 mm (6.93 inch). The composition and substance weight of envelopes are based on the same standards as for paper. Reference the IBM Page Printers Paper Reference Booklet (P/N 1686710) for additional information on paper characteristics (G544-3178).
