The unit also has a new keyboard and a universal power supply. The system board is the same as that of the IBM Personal Computer XT with 256Kb of memory already installed. With the 64/256Kb memory expansion option, the 5155 is expandable to 512Kb. Five expansion slots (one long and four short) are available for the connection of most IBM Personal Computer options. The system has the identical function and performance characteristics of an equivalently configured IBM Personal Computer. DISKETTE DRIVE The system unit has space and power for an additional 5 1/4-inch diskette drive. The drive, which is fully self-contained, is double-sided with 40 tracks per side. It uses modified frequency modulation (MFM) to read and write data with a track-to-track access time of 6 milliseconds. This diskette drive is not interchangeable with the diskette drives of the IBM Personal Computer, the IBM Personal Computer XT, or the IBM PCjr. Detailed setup instructions are included with each machine. Setup is available from the IBM Customer Service Division and the IBM Field Engineering Division at IBM hourly rates and minimums. MAINTENANCE SERVICES: Maintenance services offered by IBM are available under the terms and conditions of the IBM Personal Computer Service Agreement (Z140-3399) and the On-Site Amendment (Z125-3368) to the IBM Personal Computer Service Agreement.: It is the customer's responsibility to determine that remedial maintenance is required by following problem determination procedures furnished by IBM. An IBM representative will be sent to the customer's location to repair the malfunctioning IBM Portable Personal Computer. * Customer Carry-In (CCR): The customer will deliver the malfunctioning IBM Portable Personal Computer to an IBM Service/Exchange Center. When the machine is repaired, it may be picked up by the customer. The customer will return the repaired machine to the customer's location, connect it, and verify its operation. The customer may, in lieu of delivery, ship the failing machine prepaid, in the original shipping container or equivalent, to a designated IBM Service/Exchange Center that provides mail-in service. IBM will repair the failing machine and ship it back prepaid to customer locations within the United States and Puerto Rico. The IBM Portable Personal Computer is eligible for IBM Maintenance Agreement coverage immediately following expiration of the warranty for an annual charge. If Maintenance Agreement coverage is not contracted for immediately following expiration of the warranty coverage, the machine(s) must be inspected by IBM. This inspection will be charged to the customer. The S/ECC will give the customer instructions for returning the machine for service. SELF SERVICE: In addition to the IBM service offerings, the customer may purchase the Hardware Maintenance and Service package, which will help the customer to isolate a problem to an under-the-cover field replaceable unit (FRU). TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: The IBM Personal Computing Assistance Center (PCAC) in Boca Raton will provide telephone assistance to IBM customers who have signed a volume procurement amendment or special bid. The customer will designate a Technical Support Location (TSL) that may call the Personal Computing Assistance Center. Assistance will be available during the contract period. EDUCATIONAL ALLOWANCES: Educational Allowances of 20% are available to qualifying institutions for order quantities of up to 49. A VPA discount is not in addition to the Educational Allowance. Special bid provisions for qualifying institutions are available for quantities of 50 or more. SPECIAL BID PROVISIONS: Normal special bid provisions apply. The IBM Portable Personal Computer is available in Category A for special bid contracts with discounts and terms and conditions consistent with the VPA exhibit (5150-8). The 5155 is available for remarketing under existing Personal Computer Special Bid. Contracts with terms and conditions consistent with the VPA exhibit (5150-8). VOLUME PROCUREMENT AMENDMENT (VPA): Normal VPA provisions apply. The 5155 may be substituted for other Category A machines. All 5155s are aggregated for purposes of reaching contract minimum-order quantities.: Customers whose requirements will not result in VPA quantities may also order from an IBM Product Center.
