Title IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter Abstract The IBM Dual EtherStreamer (TM) MC 32 Adapter is a two port high performance 10Base-T Ethernet adapter designed to operate with any personal computer that supports the Micro Channel(R) (MC) bus interface. This adapter is a 32-bit Ethernet busmaster adapter, and is particularly well suited for servers with multiple LAN connections. It provides media speed throughput at all frame sizes and has 40MB data streaming capability. Network performance is increased by reducing the number of host CPU cycles required to send and receive data on the network and by increasing the throughput of data onto the Ethernet network. In addition, the IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter can operate in full-duplex or half-duplex modes, allowing transmission on the Ethernet network at 20Mbps or 10Mbps, respectively, and supports Ethernet bridging using transparent bridging or source routing techniques. The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter allows attachment to an Ethernet network using 10Base-T (twisted-pair) media. The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter contains upgradeable microcode and is compatible with other IBM Ethernet adapters operating at the same speed over the Ethernet network. The protocols conform to IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet Version 2 standards. The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter requires one full size 32-bit MC slot. The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter has a lifetime warranty. Product Number Description FEAT # Part # -------------------- -------- -------- IBM Dual EtherStreamer 8014 OETTASY MC 32 Adapter Highlights Improved Connectivity Provides two independent 10Base-T Ethernet ports on one adapter Improved performance on the MC family of products: Provides media speed on the LAN Supports 32-bit streaming data Utilizes high-performance EtherStreamer technology Improves user response time as application demands increase Extends the time before additional hardware is required as local area network (LAN) activity increases Operating Environment Recommended for Novell(1) NetWare and OS/2 environments; supports high-end MC servers. Description Connectivity Solutions The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter offers two independent RJ-45 10Base-T Ethernet ports which can be operated in either full-duplex or half-duplex modes. Business Solutions The capability of two independent 10Base-T Ethernet ports, (full-duplex or half-duplex) on one adapter provides both a cost and slot savings to customers requiring multiple LANs attached to their servers. Enhanced Performance The technology incorporated in the IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter provides industry-leading performance. Investment Protection The high throughput provided by the IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter protects the customer's current hardware investment by extending the time before additional hardware is required as LAN activity increases. This is accomplished in two ways; by reducing the number of host CPU cycles required to send and receive data on the network and by increasing adapter throughput. Features of the IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter that provide this capability: Leading-edge VLSI chip technology which provides media speed throughput at all frame sizes 32-bit address and 32-bit data operation Busmaster capability 40MB data streaming capability Support for full-duplex or half-duplex modes of operation that provides data transmission at either 20Mbps or 10Mbps, respectively, over 10Base-T Ethernet networks. A switched Ethernet concentrator with full-duplex support is required for the adapter to operate at the 20Mbps rate with other devices on the Ethernet network. End-User Productivity - Improved Worker Productivity: Due to IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter's high throughput capacity, more clients can be supported using a single adapter without degrading customer response time. In addition, the adapter's faster file transfer performance can also reduce the time it takes customers to download files from their servers. Compatibility Compatibility ensures customers that the product they purchase will work with other products in their environment, regardless of the vendor they purchased from. INVESTMENT PROTECTION - Asset Protection: The device drivers included with the IBM EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter provide the capability to operate with many of today's leading network operating systems including OS/2 LAN Server, NetWare, and LAN Manager. The IBM EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter is compatible with other Ethernet adapters operating at the same speed. The protocols conform to the IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet Version 2 standards. Reliability Reliability implies a high quality level in the product. Customers can use the product over its expected lifetime without fear of breakdown or inconsistent performance. INVESTMENT PROTECTION - Asset Protection: The lifetime warranty period of the IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter protects the customer's investment. The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter was designed and developed by IBM's Local Area Network Hardware Development Lab in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, an ISO9000-certified development laboratory. The ISO9000 certification ensures customers that high-quality design and development processes were used to develop this product. The IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter contains upgradeable microcode. If an upgrade to the microcode becomes available to improve performance, provide more function, or to fix potentially serious problems, customers only need to download a software program rather than physically replace the PROMS. protocols conform to the IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet Version 2 standards. Open Enterprise:IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter protocols conform to the IEEE 802.3 and Ethernet Version 2 standards. Product Positioning IBM Dual EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter leads the industry in two port adapter performance when used with the PS/2 Model 95 with data streaming, and should be considered in server environments where high-performance and a two port adapter are desired. It supports 10Base-T (twisted pair) cabling. The existing IBM EtherStreamer MC 32 Adapter adapter is a single port high-performance workstation/server adapter and should be considered for single port server or high-performance workstation requirements.
