The processor upgrade option features the 33MHz 80486 32-bit microprocessor and provides the capability of processor performance upgrade on the PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 and 95 XP 486 systems. The IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option is an optional processor upgrade complex for the 25MHz Model 90 XP 486 (8590-0J5, -0J9) and Model 95 XP 486 (8595-0J9, -0JD). The Option significantly increases system processor performance in compute-intensive applications from the existing 25MHz 80486 microprocessor to the 33MHz 80486 microprocessor. The IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option is supported by Operating System/2 (TM) (OS/2 (R)) Standard Edition 1.2 and 1.3, OS/2 Extended Editions 1.2 and 1.3 and the IBM Disk Operating System (DOS) Versions 3.30 and 4.00. DESCRIPTION INVESTMENT PROTECTION The IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option provides ease of performance upgrade and software compatibility with a wide range of Personal System/2 operating systems. Upward migration via processor upgrade is allowed for customers desiring greater processor performance than the 25MHz 80486 microprocessor complex featured in the IBM Personal System/2 Model 90 486 XP (8590-0J5,-0J9) and the IBM Personal System/2 Model 95 486 XP (8595-0J9,-0JD). The IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option is net priced based on the return of the 486/25 processor complex to IBM. By implementing the IBM Personal System/2 8590 and 8595 family of systems, IBM provides customers with a wide range of function and hardware designed to meet customer requirements in many different application environments. The common processor complex design of the 8590 and 8595 PS/2 system family helps protect the customer's original investment by allowing a significant performance upgrade in compute-intensive applications as computing demands increase. GROWTH ENABLEMENT The IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option offers PS/2 Model 90 XP 486 and 95 XP 486 customers a choice of microprocessor performance levels. The 486/25 processor complex featured in the IBM Personal System/2 Model 90 486 XP (8590-0J5,-0J9) and the IBM Personal System/2 Model 95 486 XP (8590-0J9,-0JD) systems can be upgraded with the new IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option. The 486/25 processor complex and the 486/33 processor complex allow functional and performance expansion via the IBM Personal System/2 256KB Cache Option (#1098, 6451095). USER PRODUCTIVITY The IBM PS/2 486/33 Processor Upgrade Option, when installed in the PS/2 8590 and 8595 family, is designed to maintain user-friendly and interactive features and the high productivity of the IBM Personal System/2 family of systems.
