This is the case when Softcopy Reader is launched by another application (such as: Build for Windows 2.3, or Autorun for IBM Online Library Collection Kits prior to March 2003). For this reason, the Book Reader and Shelf Organizer jar files are still installed as part of the IBM Softcopy Reader for Windows. The "Bookshelf Organizer" icon may be deleted from your desktop, as it has now been replaced by the "Shelf Organizer" ----------------------------------------------------------- Additional Information ----------------------------------------------------------- - When going to the IBM Softcopy Reader web site your Browser may display a message about blocked content. You will need to allow blocked content for the IBM Softcopy Reader web site to display. For example on Internet Explorer, from the Internet Explorer Information Bar, select Allow blocked content. Regarding Windows Vista: - If you have IBM Softcopy Reader 3.7(or older) installed on Windows Vista, you will need to uninstall the older version before installing IBM Softcopy Reader 3.9 (or later). - When installing on Windows Vista you may receive a message from User Account Control. You will need to select 'Allow' to continue the installation. - When specifying the Softcopy Notes directory, choose a directory the user has write access to. - If you uninstall Softcopy Reader and the Book Reader and Shelf Organizer icons are present after the uninstall you may need to refresh the desktop. For this reason more than one level of Java JRE may be found at different locations in the Windows PATH environment variable and this has been known to cause problems with IBM Shelf Organizer startup. ----------------------------------------------------------- UNINSTALLING ----------------------------------------------------------- To remove IBM Softcopy Reader from your Windows workstation: (Available options depend on which version of Windows is installed) 1. For updates on this tool, please periodically visit the IBM BookManager web pages for Softcopy Reader at: http://www.ibm.com/software/applications/office/bkmgr/softcopyread.html or http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27018857 ------------------------------------------------------------ SPECIAL NOTE TO HTTP SERVER ADMINISTRATORS ------------------------------------------------------------ If you transfer softcopy files from an IBM Collection Kit to an HTTP Server, you can provide the same access to these files as when the softcopy collection index (SCINDEX.HTM) is loaded within the SCFRAME.HTM frameset on a collection disc. However, to launch BookManager books and shelves from an HTTP Server with Softcopy Reader via the *Netscape* browser, the HTTP server administrator must modify the HTTP server configuration. Specifically, a MIME content type/subtype of application/x-boo must be assigned to the .boo file extension, application/x-bks must be assigned to the .bks file extension, and application/x-xks must be assigned to the .xks file extension. These assignments correspond to the content type values specified by the Softcopy Reader installation program in the .boo, .xks and .bks helper application information at the client. The method to make these assignments depends on the HTTP server. Here are some examples: - For the Apache HTTP server, create AddType directives in the httpd.conf file. - For the Microsoft IIS HTTP server, create MimeMap registry key entries. - For the Lotus Go HTTP server, use the Configuration and Administration function to add new entries to the Mime Types form. This HTTP Server configuration change is only required if serving Netscape clients as described above. ----------------------------------------------------------- GETTING HELP WITH BOOKMANAGER PRODUCTS ----------------------------------------------------------- This section contains information on how to obtain support and the latest corrective service for BookManager products.
