IBM PERSONAL SYSTEM/2 (R) SPEECHVIEWER (TM) APPLICATION SOFTWARE Contents Announcement Letter Number 288-614 dated November 1, 1988 US - Last Revised on November 1, 1988 Brief Description of Announcement, Charges, and Availability IBM is announcing the IBM Personal System/2 SpeechViewer Application Software, a tool for speech pathologists, teachers in special education programs, and others involved in the treatment of speech and hearing disorders. The SpeechViewer Application Software consists of program diskettes, user documentation, and a quick reference card. To provide an operational system, the customer must also purchase the SpeechViewer Hardware Option (see IBM Product Announcement 188-190, dated November 1, 1988). A SpeechViewer Convenience Kit is available which combines the Hardware Option with the Application Software to provide a single part number for ordering convenience. The combination of the SpeechViewer Hardware Option and Application Software creates a system that accepts speech input, digitizes, stores, and analyzes the speech. Its development is based on 10 years of IBM research with input from teachers and clinicians who used prototypes of the product. This research has shown that SpeechViewer programs are highly motivating, provide critical visual and auditory feedback to pathologists and clients, and can be integrated into established and accepted clinical practices.
