SILICON GRAPHICS IRISVISION COMMON PROBLEMS ------------------------------------------- Here are some problems (and solutions) frequently encountered when installing and using an IRISVISION graphics card. Symptom: Computer won't boot with IRISVISION installed Cause: IRISVISION I/O adress conflicting with another adapter Solution: Reconfigure switches 3-4 and reboot Symptom: Computer won't recognize that an IRISVISION board is installed Cause: IRISVISION I/O adress conflicting with another adapter Solution: Reconfigure switches 3-4 and reboot Symptom: Diagnostics program (IV_ATEST/IV_ADIAG) locks up the computer Cause: Bad connection in IRISVISION sub-system Solution: Reseat interconnect cables, the tabs should "click" into place Symptom: Diagnostics detect failure in the IRISVISION adapter Cause: Suspect memory address or interrupt channel (IRQ) conflict Solution: Reconfigure switches 1-2 and 6-8 and reboot Symptom: Computer won't warm-boot (i.e. Ctrl-Alt-Del) Cause: Conflict with Video BIOS ROM shadow memory feature Solution: Disable this feature with the computer's "SETUP" utility Symptom: Monitor won't sync in VGA-passthrough mode Cause: Incorrect sync signal setting Solution: Reconfigure board (IV_CONF) sync setting to Combined or Separate Symptom: Video image is "too dark" or appears "washed out" Cause: Incorrect GAMMA correction setting Solution: Use IV_CONF to change the GAMMA setting: - Larger values increase brightness - Smaller values will decrease brightness - 1.0 is no gamma correction at all (typical of most PC systems) - 1.7 is an average value with good linearity Symptom: IRISVISION board won't run under Windows 3.x Cause: Missing display driver. Solution: Download and install Windows 3.x display driver: http://reality.sgi.com/rogerb/IrisVision/dist/ivwin.zip Symptom: IRISVISION board won't run under Windows 95/NT Cause: Missing display driver. Solution: Unfortunately, development was halted before these O/S versions were available, so no drivers exist. All is not lost, I can supply you with full hardware documentation for the board set and you can obtain the Device Driver Kit from Microsoft and write your own.
