J14 VGA Enable Jumper - 1-2: Planar VGA Enabled, 2-3: Planar VGA Disabled
J15 CPU Speed Jumper - ON: 25/50/75 MHz, OFF: 33/66/100 MHz
J16 Clear CMOS Jumper - CMOS configuration is cleared by switching
the jumper from one position to the other. The jumper remains in its new position until the next
time you decide to clear CMOS.
U17 Instead of multiple discrete
oscillators this planar uses a PLL clock generator
(ICDesigns 2028SC-B) to
synthesize all required system clocks from a single 14.318 MHz source (Y1). The
only exception is the 22.1184 MHz UART clock that is generated by a dedicated
oscillator (U26).
Features
CPU Support
486DX2/66, 486DX4/100, 586/100
CPU Socket w/ automatic voltage detection and switching.
Memory
Max on board memory: 64 MB
4 72-pin SIMM sockets, 4, 8, 16 or 32 MB, 70 ns parity SIMMs supported
Optional 128 KB write-through L2 cache (supports 256KB modules).
Video
OS/2 identified the chipset correctly AND offers some hi-res modes,
especially when you pump it up to 2 MB with the addition of two 256Kx16 SOJs.
I set it up on my 17" Eizo for 800x600x64k at 72 Hz. I love it. Finally, decent
video...
Video Memory: 1 MB DRAM standard, colors with optional 2 MB
Resolution | Colors | Depth |
640x480 | 16M | 24 bits/pixel |
800x600 | 64K | 16 bits/pixel |
1024x768 | 256 | 8 bits/pixel |
1280x1024 | 16 | 4 bits/pixel |
The Reply setup program is different. I am still figuring how to LLF SCSI
drives. Also, setup takes a while to identify and configure SCSI devices, to
include SCSI adapters. I got an IBM SCSI w/cache lit up finally. Ran the IBM
diagnostics on it. So I think I can just copy the *.dgs files and try again.
Floppy
Controller supports 1.44 and 2.88 MB floppy drives.
Ports
Parallel: One enhanced, bi-directional w/ DMA support.
Serial: One enhanced w/ DMA support.
(This board uses the IBM 10G4672 I/O controller)
POD Compatibility Issues
I tried to install a FW and a FWSR on my PowerBoard, but I got errors where
the setup program claimed the ADF on the options disk was damaged or that the
ADF was not found. I took out the 83 MHz POD and used a 486DX4-100 to
successfully install a BusLogic BT-646S that had failed before. Also, I had to
edit the @0709 ADF because the Reply setup called it @0708 (BT-640). My SWAG
is that either a timing or compatibility problem (without interposer)
exists!
I ran a POD and L2 256K WB, but I got some lockups under OS/2 (that's ODD)
so I pulled the L2 until a future install.
